Chapter 210: Aftermath Of The Battle
Chapter 210: Aftermath Of The Battle
Leone sent Jason a telepathic message.
He had asked his vassal to tell Rasta and Khan to take Logan into the dwelling where Leone lived inside the mountain.
It was the most secure place in the Aslan Tribe. Even if those who had thoughts of harming or even killing the unconscious Orc Champion did their best to sneak in, they wouldn’t be able to reach him.
Although it was only for a brief moment, Daedalus sensed Caius and Titus release a hint of killing intent earlier. Though this dissipated right away after Brann had looked in their direction.
Leone understood that the Kobolds still had lingering grudges toward the Orcs for driving them away from their homes and killing some of their clan members.
It was a grudge that wouldn’t easily disappear, for the wounds from it were still fresh.
Unfortunately, there was nothing the young man could do about this. Only time would perhaps heal the wounds that the Kobolds still carried inside their hearts.
Now that the battle was over, Brann and Boris finally returned to their original forms. The Raptor Sovereign even roared toward the peak of the mountain, as if challenging Astravor to fight it.
The Gryphon simply looked down at the giant lizard. It then casually picked up a rock with its claws and threw it at the Raptor’s head, telling it to shut up because it was too noisy.
After getting hit by a rock, the Raptor felt aggrieved. Boris then roared repeatedly in response, telling the Gryphon to come down and fight it.
A moment later, another rock fell on the Raptor’s head, bouncing off its body. Boris was so frustrated that it decided to gather flames in its mouth to unleash a Fire Breath.
However, before it could do that, Brann hurriedly pacified his partner, telling the Raptor that there were still people around. He told the Raptor that they shouldn’t show an internal conflict at this time since it might make Leone look bad.
Hearing its partner’s words, Boris spat a small fireball on the ground out of frustration. It then stomped away, heading down the mountain to cool off.
At this, Brann could only shake his head helplessly. He had a feeling that the conflict between the Raptor Sovereign and the Gryphon would continue for a while.
While the two beasts bantered, Khan and a few Orcs carried Logan inside the cave. At the same time, Rasta approached Leone, only to then whisper in the young man’s ear.
"Can I have a private word with you tomorrow?" Rasta asked.
"Of course," Leone replied.
"Good. I’ll send you one of my subordinates when the time is right."
"Understood."
After saying those words, the Orc Shaman gave Leone one last glance before entering the cave to stand guard as their leader’s protector while he was still unconscious.
When things finally settled down, Duncan patted Leone’s shoulder with a smile.
"That was a good show," Duncan said. "But is it really a good thing to show something like that to the chieftains gathered here?"
The older man was hinting to Leone that he might have made a mistake by allowing them to witness the vassalship ceremony.
It would’ve been fine if only the middle-ranked chieftains had been the ones to see it. Unfortunately, the chieftains of the high-ranking tribes had also been present, which might make them think that Leone was a threat they couldn’t allow to grow.
Garen and Oswald were of the same mind, giving Hagen and Malik a cautionary glance. They were the type of people who would nip all troubles in the bud before they could even threaten their rule.
"It’s fine," Leone replied. "The middle-ranked tribes and the Aslan Tribe are good friends. I hope we can continue working together in the future. Also, thank you for worrying about me, but everything is fine."
The young man didn’t expect the vassalship ceremony to become this flashy, so he was also caught off guard.
But as the saying goes, there was no use crying over spilled milk. What was done was done, and the only thing he could do now was adapt to the current situation.
"Of course. We look forward to this partnership between our tribes," Oswald said. "We middle-ranked tribes should stick together."
"That’s right." Garen immediately jumped on the wagon, moving closer to Leone as if telling the high-ranking chieftains that they were on the same team!
Duncan chuckled at that, but he, too, moved closer to Leone, showing his stance.
Malik smirked before walking toward Leone. "I don’t know if you’ve received the message I have asked one of your warriors to relay, but I hope you can give me some of your time tomorrow so we can talk in private."
Hagen frowned after hearing Malik’s words. After seeing that spectacle, he once again regretted his decision to look down on the Aslan Tribe.
If Leone had the power to repeatedly bestow that blessing to his people, then it would only be a matter of time before the Aslan Tribe grew into a powerhouse rivaling the high-ranking tribes.
An internal battle that lasted for only a few moments took place inside Hagen’s mind. Though after remembering Leone’s relationship with Gundar, he finally calmed down a bit.
The Grimhowl Tribe and the Aslan Tribe had a shaky start. He had to admit that. But there was still a connection binding the two of them.
Hagen might have to compensate a lot in order to fix this relationship, but he believed that prioritizing reforming a friendly relationship with the Aslan Tribe would serve them well in the future.
Leone had already made his declaration.
He wished to fight against the Darkmane Tribe.
Earlier, Hagen had thought it was just some childish bravado. But now, he could tell that Leone was serious.
If the young chieftain could create more warriors like Brann, then the chances of winning weren’t as slim as Hagen originally thought it was.
’I guess I’ll just have to wait and see if he can really win,’ Hagen thought.
While he admitted that the Aslan Tribe had many surprises, the high-ranking tribes had secrets of their own.
In fact, the other high-ranking tribes also had powerful guardians like Gundar.
This was the reason the Kingdom of Britannia had repeatedly failed in its attempts to conquer the Borderlands despite its armies being well-equipped with both powerful knights and magicians.
The Death Worms of the Sandreaver Tribe.
The Manticores of the Darkmane Tribe.
The Fenrirs of the Grimhowl Tribe.
The Dread Wyverns of the Bonegnash Tribe
And the Thunder Rocs of the Warclaw Tribe.
If Daedalus used its ranking system to gauge the strength of these guardians, they would be near the peak of Rank 6, making them truly powerful monsters.
But now, the Aslan Tribe had something similar, and that was none other than Brann!
Although he was just one person, his presence alone would give the Aslan Tribe some breathing room even in the face of these powerful monsters.
"Let’s have lunch together tomorrow, then, Malik," Leone replied. "We can discuss a lot of matters while eating together."
"Sounds good." Malik nodded. "I look forward to our talk."
The young man was still not used to calling people older than him by just their names.
Still, as the Chieftain of the Aslan Tribe, he must not lower his position in front of anyone. Gundar had made sure to drill this into his head before he left.
With the vassalship ceremony now over, everyone retired to their respective residences. Yet, behind closed doors, people couldn’t help but talk about the scene they saw earlier.
When the next morning came, everyone, including the Orcs and the barbarians, would never be able to treat the Aslan Tribe the same way ever again.
