Chapter 1021: Setting an Inescapable Trap for Her (Part 1)
Through the rearview mirror, Sheng Yanxiao glanced at Lu Yuewei and didn’t say anything more.
The car slowly drove into the complex. Lu Yuewei opened the door and got out. Sheng Yanxiao didn’t drive away, though; he parked right there, got out himself, and instead of following Lu Yuewei into the same building, he walked forward a bit and stopped downstairs from Su Weiyi’s apartment building.
Back home, Lu Yuewei changed into slippers and walked out onto the balcony. She happened to see, downstairs at the entrance of the unit where Su Weiyi lived, a tall figure leaning against a tree.
Lu Yuewei let out a faint laugh, turned and went back inside, took a shower in the bathroom, changed her clothes, then poured herself a glass of milk, sat down at the computer, and started working on her master’s thesis.
Before long, the phone by her hand rang. Seeing the caller ID, her eyes immediately lit up with a smile. She reached out to answer, "Mom."
On the other end, a clear, bright voice came through: "Weiwei, have you been busy lately? Is your thesis going smoothly?"
"Very smoothly."
"Next Wednesday is your Aunt Tang’s birthday. She’s invited you to the Sheng Family. Don’t forget."
A glint flashed in Lu Yuewei’s eyes. She leaned back against the swivel chair and laughed. "Mm, I know. Mom, what do you think I should prepare as a gift?"
"Mom trusts you. You decide. As long as the thought is there, it’s fine."
Lu Yuewei nodded. After hanging up, her fingers moved slightly as she found Sheng Yanxiao’s number, composed a text message, and sent it.
Thousands of kilometers away in W City, Bai Bing finished her call, glanced back at the man busy at the desk, walked over and gave him a little push. "It’s all because you suddenly had work. I’d already promised Yanxi I would go to B City this time."
Lu Qilin grabbed her hand and lifted it to his lips for a kiss. "Sorry. Once I finish this case, we’ll take a vacation."
——
Night was in full swing outside. In the private room, Si Nian was still howling off-key. Su Weiyi and Chen Ajia had been sitting and chatting, and without realizing it, the two of them had put away half a dozen beers.
Su Weiyi’s cheeks were as red as a ripe apple, a misty layer clouding her dark eyes. Propping her head up with one hand, she tilted it to look at Chen Ajia beside her.
Chen Ajia was still going on and on, laying out that whole "long story" she’d just mentioned—how she and Si Nian had gotten together over the years, why they broke up, why they got back together—rambling through it all in bits and pieces.
It didn’t sound very coherent, but it was still understandable.
Su Weiyi’s head felt a little heavy, but her mind was still relatively clear.
The on‑again, off‑again between Chen Ajia and Si Nian wasn’t really about anything major. It was just that both of them had pretty fiery tempers. They’d start arguing over some trivial little thing, then break up, then couldn’t bear it, and got back together again.
Chen Ajia took a big gulp, then let out a boozy burp. "Xiao Yi, let me tell you, Si Nian is such a bastard. Other guys all revolve around their girlfriends. Him? He revolves around his games and his Brother Xiao. Fuck, scumbag."
As she spoke, Chen Ajia burped again, then her voice suddenly softened. "But I fucking just like him."
With drunken, hazy eyes, Su Weiyi watched as Si Nian, who had just put down the microphone, clearly heard that too. He stepped over to Chen Ajia, pulled her into his arms, and said, "Mm, thanks for the confession. I like you too."
The alcohol hit Chen Ajia. With soft, boneless hands, she gave Si Nian a weak little push.
